Welsh Dee Partnership Limited

Welsh Dee Partnership Limited (WDP) was formed in 2012 to promote good relations between anglers and canoeists on the Welsh Dee in the Llangollen area. WDP was formed as a result of the Welsh Assembly Government's desire to see local access arrangements between fishermen and canoeists over rivers in Wales. Stretches of the Welsh Dee which have been opened up to access by such arrangements are some of the best white water rapids in Europe.

One of the paddling sections is from Horseshoe Falls to Llangollen Town Weir. Horseshoe falls is a distinctively shaped weir, which is 140m long and helps create a pool of water that can feed into the Llangollen Canal. It was completed in 1808.

Paddling downstream from there takes you under a bridge and past the Chain Bridge Hotel towards the Serpent's Tail - an internationally famous Grade 4 rapid. From there it is a relatively calm trip to the town weir.

If you'd like a longer run, you can start your trip at Glyndyfrdwy, some six miles further upstream which gives a total reach of some 8.1 miles.

For both runs, we ask that you adhere to the recommendations, levels and times in order to avoid any conflicts with other river users (see the River Access page for more details). Please may we also ask you to conform to the recommended Code of Conduct.

Llangollen & Maelor Anglers Limited has arranged for the use of that water by canoeists and an agreed list of local commercial operators (see the conditions section on the River Access page for hours of access).

There are quarterly meetings and WDP is endeavouring to open up further stretches of the Welsh Dee for canoeing.

In the future it is intended to open up further stretches of the Dee for Grayling fishing by tourists visiting the local area.Grayling The Dee is one of the best Grayling rivers in Europe and regularly hosts international competitions around Llangollen area whilst at the same time allowing fishermen to enjoy their sport in peace and quiet.
